Sutton Coldfield Society of Artists
Submitted by Keith Ripley on Tue, 10/11/2009 - 16:10The Sutton Coldfield Society of artists was formed in 1947 to encourage painting as a recreation. The Society has now grown to over 170 members and has established itself as one of the principal art societies in the Midlands, providing a focus for artists of all abilities to learn, practice and develop their artistic skills.
We organise a programme of monthly demonstrations and workshops by professional artists, held on a Saturday at Mere Green Community Centre. Informal Sunday painting days are also held monthly at the Fellowship Hall, South Parade, Sutton Coldfield, where members meet to socialise, paint from still life and from a live model. In addition, various Wednesday painting days at outside venues are arranged during the summer months, and a trip to London galleries is a yearly event.
Exhibitions of members' work are the focal point for the society and these are held each Spring and Autumn at Sutton Coldfield Library for two weeks. Entries are selected to ensure a high standard and various awards are presented for the best paintings and craft work. Exhibitions are well attended by the public and have become a popular event in the social calendar.
